Vehicles in German Town Found Covered with Swastikas in Blood, Police Confirm

Police mentioned they were contacted by a resident who found a automobile in Hanau smeared with reddish liquid

Approximately fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the German city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to authorities.

Automobiles, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a release.

Police state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.

The fluid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they stated.

Police then found multiple other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

Swastikas are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the public exhibition of symbols from the Nazi era.

Law enforcement report preliminary tests show the liquid was probably blood from a person.

"There is still no lead as to its origin; authorities are not yet cognizant of any injuries in relation with the incident," they added.

Municipal representatives stated they were trying "to resolve the incident" and have appealed to the community for information.

A high-ranking political figure commented the incident made him without words and had to be resolved promptly.

"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, referring to the murder of nine individuals by a shooter targeting residents of migrant background in February 2020.
