Top Diplomat Interrupts Trump with Scrawled Note on Gaza Peace Deal
A urgent handwritten note passed to Donald Trump by his top diplomat, Marco Rubio, indicated that an announcement regarding a peace agreement in Gaza might be made very soon.
Captured in a image, the note's contents urged the president to authorize a message on his social media platform to break the news before others.
"Nearly there," it stated, as shown in the photo. "We need you to approve a Truth Social post soon so you can announce deal first."
Shortly after the note was revealed, Trump published on his platform, expressing he was "extremely pleased" to reveal the initial stage of the deal.
"This indicates that ALL of the Hostages will be released shortly, and Israel will pull back their Troops to an mutually accepted line as the first steps toward a Strong, Durable, and Everlasting Peace," he wrote.
The Moment the Note Was Passed to Trump
Trump was holding a discussion with right-leaning commentators about antifa when Rubio, positioned in the back corner of the White House's Blue Room, got his attention.
He had news for Trump, he explained, but it would have to wait until after the press departed. Subsequently, Rubio handed the president the note.
"I was just given a note by the secretary of state saying that we're nearing completion to a deal on the Middle East, and they're gonna need me pretty quickly," Trump announced. "Therefore, we will address a couple of more questions."
Behind the Scenes of the Peace Talks
The event had already been underway for more than an hour when Rubio first approached. The president welcomed him to enter, and Rubio whispered something to Trump before giving him the note.
The note's pressing nature came as Trump's top Middle East adviser, Steve Witkoff, Qatar's Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and other high-ranking diplomats joined a third day of peace talks between Israel and Hamas at an Egyptian resort – a indication that negotiators are working to dive deeply into the most challenging topics of a American proposal to end the war in Gaza.
Trump's Comments on Overseas Trip
Trump had begun the gathering by informing assembled journalists that he planned to travel to the Middle East "toward the end of the week" and could even "make the rounds" in the region to Egypt and possibly Gaza as US negotiators closed in on a deal.
Still, even after Rubio passed Trump the note, Trump kept speaking to the influencers and respond to queries from the media as the secretary of state became visibly anxious.
Concluding the Event
Nearly 10 minutes after his initial comments about departing, Trump said: "I must leave now to try and solve some problems in the Middle East – although I'm very well represented by our secretary of state. He could likely do an even better job than me, but who knows."
"We don't want to take any chances. So we're going to go and do that," Trump added.
He then proposed that two attendees remain and answer inquiries in his stead. Nonetheless, Trump continued to take questions before the event concluded without administration officials remaining behind.
"We will achieve peace in the Middle East," Trump wrapped by saying. "That is exactly what we want to do."
