Resurgent Daniil Medvedev Claims Maiden Championship in Over Two Years

Nineteen of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been achieved on hard courts

A comeback Medvedev won his maiden title for nearly 30 months with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition title decider.

The athlete, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, managing just a single victory at the big events and undergoing a difficult moment at the American major.

Medvedev's inconsistency on the tennis tour - and struggles with his serving in especial - caused him dropping out of the top ten and eventually separating with former mentor his previous coach.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the past month - culminating in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks the player's first trophy after the Rome competition and first on a hardcourt after March of 2023.

Success also signifies Medvedev has secured 21 titles at twenty-one different competitions.

"For the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is really nice," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my child Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six finals, featuring in the German tournament previously this season.

The player's counter-punching play style and recurring emotional displays on the tennis court had led some to question if his skill to compete at the top level was over.

However the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to come to the net and play assertively, backed up by an improved service.

He came back from a break down in the opening set against the tricky Moutet, securing 4 of the concluding five points to take the lead.

Both players swapped service breaks in the middle set before the Frenchman, striving for his initial professional title, seized the initiative to create a third set.

He saved four initial opportunities in a close third set before Medvedev broke to that score to close out the victory.

Fittingly, he clinched the win with a shot at the front of the court, with his opponent unable to handle a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
