The impacted platforms encompass the social media app Snapchat, the gaming platform Roblox, Signal, and Duolingo, along with a host of Amazon-owned platforms including its primary shopping site and the Ring doorbell device manufacturer.

Across the United Kingdom, the financial institution Lloyds was disrupted along with its subsidiaries Halifax and the Scottish bank, with further notifications of problems reaching the HM Revenue and Customs website on the start of the week. Also in the UK, multiple Ring device owners used networks to report their home gadgets were not working.

Amazon reported that the issue began in the east coast of the America at AWS, a division that provides essential internet framework for a host of companies, who utilize space on AWS infrastructure. The cloud platform is the world’s largest cloud computing service.

Shortly after the start of the day (PDT) in the United States (morning UK time), officials reported “elevated problem frequencies and delays” for the cloud services in a region on the east coast of the America. The cascading impact appeared to disrupt platforms around the world, with the outage tracking website showing issues with the same sites in multiple continents.
